Forward auctions

The most well-known type of auction is the English auction, also referred to as the ascending auction. This auction type is characterized by a gradual increase in the price of the item being sold by the auction organizer as bidders compete to purchase the item. Before the start, the participants can optionally submit their bids (prebidding).

Reverse auctions

This auction type operates on a principle that is the reverse of the forward English auction, as indicated by its name. The auction host is aiming for the lowest price possible to be given to the successful bidder, a useful approach for getting best price for a project.

Texas auctions

This style is well-matched for property or art auctioning. Bidding commences with an initial price specified by the seller and continues until there is only one bidder remaining interested in acquiring the item and having highest bid.

Additional features

All auctions can be configured to have: minimal bid increment as fixed value or percentage of current bid, start and end date and time, anti snipping (duration of auction is increased for say 3 min if bid is placed 30 sec before end), sms and email notifications, ending soon notifications, live ajax bid updates, proxy / automatic bidding (explainer), reserve price (auction cannot be sold for lower than reserve price).

Sealed auctions

In sealed auctions bidders and their bids are not public. Highest or lowest (for reverse sealed auctions) bidder wins the auction.

Penny bidding

Bidders have the option to deposit funds into their account and use them to place bids (for instance, each bid costs a penny, hence the name Penny auctions).

Member only bidding

Members or premium verified clients have the ability to participate in auction and only users from that particular group are permitted to place bids.
